Lunch Angels
Davis FoundationDavis School District’s unpaid student lunch debt exceeds half a million dollars. Nearly 20% of students in Davis School District qualify for free and reduced lunch — an indication of the level of food insecurity among families — but many accrue a negative balance before being identified and enrolling in the programs. Others are afraid to enroll because they don’t want to draw attention to their plight. To prevent hunger, stop shame, and avoid the negative effects of poor nutrition on academic outcomes, we invite donors to become a Lunch Angel for students and families in need. The funds will wipe away debt and create a small reserve of funds at the school site where nutrition workers and administrators can assist in covering the cost of a meal when they know a student is struggling to pay.
